Family and updates of Hero

My sister is here with her family for the first time to spend their summer vacation with us. My nephew, now 17yrs and niece 11yrs old remind me of the day they were little toddlers, dancing around, bombarding me with questions, eyes wide open & ready to be amazed ….how fast time flies!

Here we call our aunts (mother’s sister) as ‘Maasi’ in Odia ‘Mausi’ which means ‘like-mother’ and strangely children also happen to be the closest to them. We are currently enjoying the laziest yet busiest time together. Showing them around Hyderabad, talking, sipping tea, remembering old stories & listening to theirs, I realize the kids are still that silly & cute that they used to be. Amidst all this, a part of me lingers unto ‘Hero’. Little update on Hero: Friday, received a call from Blue Cross informing that Hero might be suffering from Distemper and they have to perform euthanasia for the safety of other animals there. I asked for some time & they agreed. Hero’s plasters were already removed when we took him to clinic the next day. We were overwhelmed when the test conducted for distemper came out negative. But, there was a lot more, I noticed swelling in his left front and back legs….an x-ray confirmed fracture. It had already started calcifying, which means, if at all we want to plaster it he has to undergo a major surgery which is difficult for a puppy to survive when he is already so week. And after that also the chances of recovery is too low. The other reason might be that who and why bother about a stray. No plaster nothing, we returned home hopeless leaving everything on his survival instinct.  He did not eat or drink anything just lied down with his eyes closed. Every now and then as I clean him, I could feel his pain and wonder if it is really best what the docs had suggested…euthanasia? I wished we had strength to watch him & care for him through these phase, at least we could have provided him a home but we dont….so decided to put him back at the care of Blue Cross. On our way to Blue Cross, the moment we reach closer to Parvatnagar, his home, he gets excited and tries to peep outside from the cartoon box. I hold him up so that he could look around, who knows it might be the last time….. Hero is in the care of wonderful, kind hatred doctors and staff of Blue Cross Hyderabad right now.

Late that evening, I was informed that both Hero & the other girl we picked up from near the Dr. Dog clinic, had passed away…..
